"When I decided to set up this quartet, I didn't do it with a record in mind. Rather, I wanted to hear my music played by other musicians, with an energy and "color" that was different, fresh. This is the sound of my present, and they are not only friends but also the musicians who fulfill me most on stage because they are able to bring out the sound in my head. With them, my great luxury is that I could afford not to play and the music would still work."
This is how, on his social channels, Fabrizio Bosso describes "State Of The Art," a project capable of highlighting his well-known talent for improvisation and always recognizable compositional figure (Rumba For Kampei, Mapa, Black Spirit, Dizzy's Blues, Minor Mood). The albums simultaneously highlight Bosso's role as a leader, able to stand out in his own right and, at the same time, leave all the space necessary for his colleagues to express their individual personalities. They are pianist Julian Oliver Mazzariello, drummer Nicola Angelucci and double bassist Jacopo Ferrazza.
For each track on the album, the Quartet's music has the power to constantly renew itself. Original songs are dressed in a different, unprecedented light and standards are personalized, enriched with new nuances. True, pure stories are told, moments of audience warmth, moments of joy and tension. All these elements make State Of The Art an album that succeeds in fixing the sound of what Fabrizio Bosso has become today, after more than twenty albums recorded as a leader, excellent collaborations and several tours around the world. But the project also has the ability to restore to the listener all the urgency of an album entirely recorded live, with all the three-dimensionality of the live experience.
